Tips From Alexis Ren: My 5 Favorite Healthy Snacks

Believe it or not, snacking is quite a popular hobby among people who work out (aka warriors).

One of the reasons why, is that the more active you are, the more your body craves food that will fuel your movement. The key to successful snacking is having healthy options to choose from. 

That's why we asked Alexis Ren what her top 5 favorite healthy snacks are. She answered with five snacks that both fill you up and keep you on track with your fitness goals.

Here are Alexis Ren's go-to healthy snacks:

1. Apples Apples Apples

"Apples are my go to snacks. They're hydrating and have a nice sweetness (or sourness) to them. I like that they're light and have a good balance of natural sugar, carbs and fiber."

There are many different kinds of apples to try. Have you found your favorite kind of apple yet? Consider stocking up on some and seeing how they work for you as a healthy snack. 

2. Myrna's Skinny Crisp Crackers 

"I love these crackers. They're low carb, gluten-free, all-natural and packed with flavor! These are the perfect snack to fill you up when you get hungry in-between meals."

3. Catalina Crunch Keto Cereal

"Catalina Crunch Cereal is sooooo good. With no sugar, 10 grams of protein and 6 grams of fiber, this cereal makes for the perfect breakfast (with some fruit) or midday snack. Enjoy with your favorite fat-free or nut milk."

For anyone who loves crunchy snacks this is a healthy and filling option.  

4. A Protein Shake

"Sometimes when I feel hungry I'll drink a protein shake. This is my favorite protein powder. It's vegan and tastes delicious. Mix with your choice of milk or water. You can also choose to add in a banana or all natural nut butter for a more filling snack or small meal."

This specific protein helps repair and build body tissue. It also assists in building lean muscle mass when combined with a regular workout routine and a healthy balanced diet.

5. Hummus With Carrots

"I love dipping veggies in hummus. My go-to vegetables are carrots, but you can dip cucumbers, celery, cauliflower or broccoli. Really any raw veggie of your choice. One last tip: be sure to watch the sodium levels on the back of the hummus you buy. The lower the levels the healthier the hummus."

If hummus isn't your thing, you can go for a guacamole or salsa dip. You can also go for no dip at all and simply veg out. 

Snacking Should Be Mostly Guilt Free

At Warriors we believe there is nothing wrong with having a few snacks throughout your day. The key is to make sure those snacks are healthy and natural. That way, the fat you burn during your workout will stay burned and you'll simply be adding more nutrients to support your body.

...the purpose being giving your body foods that will make it feel energized.

Also if you ever do find yourself reaching for "junk food" don't be hard on yourself. We've all been there. The best thing you can do for your body is snack healthier the next day. 

Also also, snacking and having a treat for dessert now and then are two very different things. Treating yourself to whatever it is you consider a treat is always okay (in moderation though...because remember, we're all about balance).
